A Ship as large as a battleship, with the big caliber guns of a battleship, and
the sea speed of the fastest cruiser... But lighter armor than battleships. The
battlecruisers  were  the elegant, powerful  warriors of high seas. Their major
weakness was only their armor.

Battlecruisers  were  the dream warriors of Admiral John ( Jacky ) Fisher. He
was father of the battlecruiser idea & original strategy.

The  battlecruiser as  a  type came from the fertile imagination of Admiral sir
John Fisher, the same authority  who was  the  driving  force  behind the new,
revolutionary  powerful battleship  called  "Dreadnought".  Designed  almost
concurrently  with  Dreadnought  was  the  Invincible  class battlecruisers. As
soon  as  the  18.000  ton  Dreadnought  was  launched,  the  pioneer  of  the
Invincibles  was  laid  down. They were to revolutionize cruiser design as  the
Dreadnought had revolutionized battleship design.

 
HMS HOOD (MIGHTY HOOD) WAS THE MOST POWERFUL AND MODERN (ALSO
THE BIGGEST) BATTLECRUISER OF ALL TIMES. SHE WAS BLOWN UP BY DKM
BISMARCK DURING THE BATTLE OF DENMARK STRAIT IN 1941.

But  the battlecruisers' common weakness was  their shield.The battlecruiser
something lighter & thinner than  a  typical  battleship armor. This  weakness
played a major role for the lost of many battlecruisers during WWI and WWII
especially  during  the  Battle  of  Skagerrak  (Jutland). Their  armor couldn' t
withstand the heavy caliber armor piercing shells.

But, except this common weakness, battlecruisers  were  as  powerful as  the
battleships and have superıor speed than all.
